Wheelmap has been focussing on collecting essential information that is important for people with mobility restrictions since 2010. In the future we want to make it possible to gather additional accessibility information with a new web app – Wheelmap Pro. We will make more than 150 different accessibility criteria available from which you can put together your own Wheelmap Pro according to your requirements. Wheelmap Pro is suitable for cities and municipalities, businesses, organizations and mapping initiatives.

Z

IT expertise & branding

Without the need to develop your own expensive app you can have an app with your own branding.

Z

Use your own network

You can make the app available to an existing community or create a new community using the app.

Z

Customized mapping

You decide which accessibility criteria you want to include for your data collection in addition to the basic Wheelmap criteria.

BACKGROUND – WHY USE CROWDSOURCING FOR MAPPING?

Which public places are accessible and which ones are not? It is hard to find this kind of information and the most-used map services still do not offer a solution. This was the reason why the Sozialhelden developed Wheelmap.org in 2010. Since then 815,000 places have been rated using a crowdsourcing strategy based on open data.

We, the makers of Wheelmap.org, have been awarded many prizes for this approach in the last years. And while we were busy, many nonprofit organizations around the world have had similar ideas. This prompted us to develop an exchange format – Accessibility Cloud – which now serves as the backend for bringing together approximately 50 data sources. The data sets provide accessibility information for about one million places in the form of more than 150 different criteria.
