The project Elevate has been nominated for the German Sustainability Award as one of three innovative research projects. From now until October 18, you can help out and vote for Elevate.

The Wheelmap team is pleased that the project Elevate, a project of the Berlin Sozialhelden e.V. for making real-time data of lifts in public transport available as open data, is one of the nominees for the German Sustainability Award. At www.forschungspreis.de everyone can vote and help to make Elevate the winner.

The project helps to raise awareness among transport companies, citizens and lift manufacturers of how important of lifts are in the everyday lives of people with reduced mobility. In particular, the possibility of being informed in real time about the presence and functionality of lifts creates great advantages for planning and running a journey without bad surprises. With its innovative approach, the project achieves outstanding added value both in terms of inclusion and for the mobility of the future.

Among other things, Project Elevate has made it possible to display real-time elevator data in the Wheelmap. More than 3300 elevators in the map change their color automatically from green to red if an elevator at the station is out of order. In addition, the project team has developed a sensor to digitize elevators.
